Intro to WallopGolf - Rule #2. The Tee Shot

Written by: Andrew

2.) The Tee Shot
2a.) Tee shot which does not clear ladies tees results in loss of toss on that hole, or loss of one (1) dollar ($USD) into group beer fund (when applicable).
2b.) Players MUST use driver on par four (4) and par five (5) holes.
2c.) Tee shot may NOT be tossed. (more on this later)

Ah yes, the tee shot. More emphasis is put on this than any other shot in golf, except maybe that 2 ft. putt nobody will allow a gimme on. Well, WallopGolf puts the pressure on even more, especially for those who play long. 210 yds. to the corner on a par 4? Too freakin bad, you gotta break out the ol’ WallopHandle and play it. Sure you can try to wuss up on it but we all know that usually never turns out well. Try to cut the corner, ok, but watch out for that tree/lake/patch of tallgrass/evil ball goblin.

The long and short of it: Gotta play it, you have to figure out HOW to do it.

Review - Dunlop Grab Bag Balls

Written by: Lance

Dunlop GolfThis has been my go-to ball since I started playing golf last year. I had these, and some Top-Flight XL3000 balls. The Dunlops are not a bad ball. They can feel like your hitting rocks if you don’t hit them well, but for how cheap they are, you can lose several dozen in the rough and not feel bad about it.

Quick Review - Callaway Hyper X Driver

Written by: Andrew

Callaway GolfHit this driver about a dozen times this afternoon and I think I’ve found my next driver (maybe…). This thing is effing sweet, the only problem is the Fuji shaft seems a little too soft for a stiff, I was hitting left a lot, which is the exact opposite of my normal ball flight. The std Hyper didn’t seem to set up closed like the std X460 did which was 2º closed, I believe (X460 Tour is supposed to set up neutral).

Review - Callaway Big Bertha (07) Ball

Written by: Andrew

This is going to be short, as many ball reviews are (or at least they SHOULD be). There’s not much to say about this ball really (as with many).

The Callaway BB07 is a fantastic ball, straight, long, and (to me) soft enough.

This is the only ball I played all year that I didn’t have trouble losing to errant drives. For some reason or another it’s just freakin straight, it just is. Not only did I buy just a dozen for all of 2007, but I still have an unused sleeve, and this is after I lost nearly 15 TopFlite D2’s and a dozen Dunlop LoCo’s.

Callaway Big Bertha Ball

While this isn’t my favorite ball, it’s the best all around for my game and budget. If I were Daddy Warbucks I would play TaylorMade TP Blacks all season long. Of course the ball I preferred before it was so tragically whacked was the Maxfli Black Max (the original, not the impostor ones out there now).

That’s about it. This ball is my everyday gamer, period.

WallopHandle Introduces WallopGolf

Written by: WallopStaff

We have been working on a golf variation that we think most golfers can enjoy. That is the point of it actually, to make golf more about having fun and being sociable than how many strokes you can knock off. The game is called WallopGolf.

WallopGolf makes those undesirable slices and chunks a bit more enjoyable, while adding different ways to compete with your friends. New ideas will be added to your golf game like trying to get Bingo, Bango, Bongo, or even all three. Feeling like hitting the 3W to get around the curve? Sorry, man (or woman) up and hit your driver. Its a rule! Want to lay up because you can’t hit your wussy ball over the water hazard? Too Bad, gotta try. At least you can laugh with/at your friends too when they join you in the abyss.

Even the score with the person in your group that always shows you up. Take away their favorite club or give them a “Merle” to spiral into the rough.

WallopGolf is about everyone having fun and all chipping into the Beer Fund. Look through the rules and add WallopGolf to your game and see how it works for you. Join us in the forum if you have any good ideas or just want to say your bit. As time goes on, we will add both our own variations and additions, as well as some that are suggested in the forum by fellow wallopers.
